WHO ARE YOU?

September 5, 2018 Today I read a poem by a newly published poet, Marvin Artis, in Rattle Volume 24, Number 3, Fall 2018, © 2018 Rattle Foundation. L IFE I have this thing that I was given when I was born. It’s called a life. I really don’t know how else to describe it. It’s so big. I can only say what it’s called. It took me a while to figure out that this big thing was mine, that I could do with it whatever I wanted. After I decided what I wanted to do with it, I changed my mind. Then, I changed my mind again. I changed it one more time. Life, being whatever it is, also seems to have its own mind, even though it’s yours. It’s like your father or mother or son or daughter or dog. They’re yours, but they have their own minds too. So, at one point, my life said “no” to something I wanted to do. What’s on my mind today is all the unrest on this earth! Along with how full of gratitude I am for being alive to enjoy all the beauty in this world! Many times bringing tears of Joy! I know what to do with all the beauty – drink it in, bask in it. But what can I do about the unrest besides cry? Truly, not much because I have no money or power but like we tell our young children “Use Your Words” – so here are a few of mine. Most of us know that all that exists is energy. Energy pervades everything that exists – everything is interconnected and interdependent - yes? With this in mind, I believe that the more we send positive energy into the world, the greater the possibility that we can begin the balance the scales – be the hundredth monkey – contribute to the tipping point. DREAM ENERGY

DREAM: I am in a different classroom, I am arranging all the piles of work for that day on a desk and elsewhere in the room. The room is not mine but more like the 3/4 split, with windows all down the long wall across from the door. I look at my clock and see that it is 11:30. I thought it was more like 9:00. I think I must have forgotten to pick up the kids in the yard. somehow I have spaced out for 2 1/2 hours! I leave to find my students. When I return, the principle is sneaking across the room to throw away the last piece of orange peel from the orange he has eaten. He is wearing a dark blue and grey plaid shirt. He knows I am there. I begin to explain what happened - that I got lost in preparing everything to teach. I see the first-grade teacher in the back third of the room, behind a partition, typing on a computer. I say "hi" and he nods hello. I have an AHA and blurt out my discovery to the principal, "I was so engrossed in getting ready, that time got lo
